Software Compliance Engineer (Contractor) (Automotive)

Location: U.S. remote, or hybrid with 2–3 days in the office near Ann Arbor, MI; Atlanta, GA; or San Jose, CA. Occasional travel within the U.S. may be required. Relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $95–$109 per hour

What you will do

• Serve as the technical liaison between Legal and Engineering on U.S. and global regulations covering export compliance, AI, ADS/ADAS, data, and emerging automotive technologies.
• Identify, analyze, prioritize, and resolve compliance risks in product and engineering design.
• Research applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards and translate them into practical guidance.
• Develop scalable, automated, engineer-friendly compliance processes and tools.
• Prepare commodity classifications and perform technical analyses supporting regulatory submissions.
• Coordinate compliance activities and training across Legal, Engineering, Procurement, HR, IT, and company leadership.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in the technology industry, primarily managing technical and software compliance topics.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering; a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to attorneys and regulatory requirements to software developers.
• Strong analytical, research, communication, collaboration, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to manage high-volume workflows, competing priorities, projects, and stakeholders across time zones.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Jira, and specialized systems.

Nice to have

• Experience developing compliance tools for a large enterprise.
• Experience with AI and with global technology or automotive companies.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the U.S. for in-person collaboration.
