Distribution Design Engineer II (Electric Distribution)

Location: Hybrid, based at the Grand Rapids or Petoskey, Michigan office

Salary: $78,000–$85,000 per year

What you will do

• Analyze and design 4kV–35kV electric distribution systems, including line extensions, upgrades, and reliability improvements.
• Map and inventory existing overhead and underground distribution systems in the field.
• Develop construction work packages using GIS, AutoCAD, and client-specific design tools.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, protective device coordination, load flow, and arc-flash studies.
• Prepare unit lists, material lists, construction contracts, and construction specifications.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings and conduct construction and post-construction field inspections.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• 2–5+ years of experience in electric distribution engineering, preferably with a utility, municipality, or consulting firm.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and CYME or similar distribution modeling tools.
• Strong knowledge of NESC, RUS, and utility design standards.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work nights and weekends when required by project schedules.
• EIT preferred; PE License is a plus.

• Experience with Milsoft WindMil E&A.
• Experience with O-Calc.
