Distinguished Technologist Mechanical Engineer (Network Infrastructure)

Location: Onsite, primarily from an hirify.global office; United States of America, California

Salary: USD 163,000–347,500 annual base salary in California, with possible variable incentives.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical development of complex networking systems and chassis platforms from concept through production release and field support.
• Define mechanical architecture, packaging, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, system specifications, and validation plans.
• Evaluate cooling, liquid-cooling, interconnect, materials, and manufacturing technologies for future product roadmaps.
• Conduct CAD reviews, tolerance analysis, prototype evaluation, laboratory testing, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations.
• Lead cross-functional design reviews and collaborate with electrical, thermal, signal integrity, reliability, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain teams.
• Guide supplier engagements, customer escalations, corrective actions, technical planning, and engineer mentoring.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and 15+ years of experience in electromechanical product development.
• Extensive experience with chassis development, system packaging, and high-density electronic assemblies.
• Expertise with 3D solid modeling tools, preferably SolidWorks, plus tolerance analysis, GD&T, stack-up analysis, and structural analysis.
• Working knowledge of FEA, ECAD-MCAD integration, IDF workflows, thermal design, thermal characterization, and liquid cooling.
• Strong knowledge of sheet metal, machining, castings, extrusions, plastics, tooling, volume manufacturing, product cost drivers, and supplier capabilities.
• Understanding of NEBS, EMI, EMC, safety, regulatory compliance, system troubleshooting, and the complete product development lifecycle.

Nice to have

• MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with networking, server, storage, telecommunications, or high-performance computing systems.
• Experience leading complex cross-functional development programs.
• Experience with EPDM or an equivalent PLM system.
