Senior Software Development Engineer (US Federal)

Location: USA.VA.Reston; may require on-site work at client locations in the DC, MD, and VA area. At least 50% of each quarter is spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD for the primary location; additional U.S. locations have a base range of $148,200–$264,000 USD.

What you will do

• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, latency spikes, and resource constraints across Kubernetes workloads in AWS GovCloud.
• Build capacity forecasting models, analyze usage trends, and execute stress and load testing for federal workloads.
• Manage cloud resource utilization, infrastructure right-sizing, and FinOps initiatives without compromising performance or security.
• Build and optimize APM, distributed tracing, monitoring, logging, and capacity-alerting systems.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, autoscaling, and continuous delivery with Terraform, Terragrunt, Docker, AWS, and Argo CD.
• Optimize air-gapped deployments, establish performance benchmarks, conduct design reviews, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required because the role supports U.S. federal government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph is required; an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph is strongly preferred.
• For the senior level: 5+ years of experience with production cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, or platform engineering systems.
• 3+ years of experience with Terraform or Terragrunt, CI/CD or GitOps tools, and modern scripting or programming languages.
• Experience independently leading technical initiatives, troubleshooting distributed systems, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Docker, observability systems, air-gapped architectures, and federal security frameworks is preferred.

Nice to have

• AWS GovCloud and isolated cloud deployment experience.
• Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, or Zero Trust experience.
• DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II or higher certification and a current Computing Environment credential.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical or military experience.
