TL;DR
Scientist I, Microglia (iPSC-Derived Cell Therapy): Developing and characterizing iPSC-derived microglia differentiation processes and cell therapy products with an accent on in vitro and in vivo studies, cellular phenotype, function, engraftment, and therapeutic activity. Focus on designing experiments, analyzing translational and preclinical data, optimizing gene-editing and cell-culture methods, and coordinating external research collaborations.

Location: On-site in Torrey Pines, San Diego, California. Flexible availability for weekend and holiday work may be required. Relocation is not available.

Salary: $108,900–$133,100 annually for candidates working in San Diego.

What you will do

  • Design and execute experiments involving microglia differentiation, characterization, translational research, and preclinical studies.
  • Lead the development, optimization, and characterization of iPSC-derived microglia processes.
  • Conduct in vitro and in vivo studies evaluating cellular phenotype, function, engraftment, therapeutic activity, and disease mechanisms.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot projects, and contribute to technical reports and other documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments, scientific leadership, external academic partners, and contract research organizations.
  • Support cell therapy product release, stability, characterization, pipeline expansion, and the training of Research Associates.

Requirements

  • PhD in biology, neuroscience, or a related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in a molecular or cellular research environment.
  • Proficiency in aseptic cell culture with experience in hESCs or hiPSCs.
  • Competence in designing, optimizing, and validating gene-editing experiments.
  • Strong data analysis, quantitative, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship now or in the future is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with iPSCs, microglia, in vivo disease modeling, gene editing, or bioinformatics.
  • Experience with preclinical animal studies, tissue collection, histological analysis, and in vivo efficacy evaluation.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, RNA-seq, IHC, live-cell imaging, calcium imaging, or MEA.
  • Background in microglia, macrophages, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, or CNS disease models.
