TL;DR
Safety & Security Counsel, EMEA (AI): Advising on the safety and security of Claude and Anthropic across usage policies, enforcement frameworks, threat intelligence, incident response, and regulatory engagement with an accent on high-stakes, interdisciplinary legal work. Focus on building crisis playbooks and escalation protocols, guiding safeguards and security engineering teams, and translating complex AI safety and security issues into actionable legal guidance.

Location: London, UK; hybrid attendance at the London office at least 3 days a week is expected.

Annual salary: £165,000–£205,000 GBP.

What you will do

  • Advise Safeguards and Trust & Safety policy teams on usage policies, detection, and enforcement across areas including cyber, CBRNE, user wellbeing, scaled abuse, and influence operations.
  • Guide account actions, appeals, enforcement systems, thresholds, sensitive escalations, and strategic responses involving governments, law enforcement, regulators, and the press.
  • Advise on threat intelligence investigations, bug bounty programs, red-team activities, and safety and security testing.
  • Support safeguards, security engineering, ML, and data science teams building tooling and detection mechanisms, including data governance and privacy considerations.
  • Provide first-line legal guidance during safety and security incidents and assess notification and reporting obligations.
  • Build crisis management playbooks, escalation protocols, and self-serve legal guidance while tracking AI safety and security regulation across relevant jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • Qualification to practice law in England & Wales or another relevant jurisdiction.
  • Experience advising on fast-moving, high-stakes investigations, regulatory matters, crisis management, or enforcement work.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of trust & safety, cybersecurity, privacy, or platform regulation.
  • Strong legal drafting and writing skills, including policies, playbooks, escalation protocols, or guidance for non-legal audiences.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to understand system architecture, data flows, and AI model behavior.
  • Experience coordinating time-sensitive, multi-stakeholder responses and communicating legal analysis to technical and executive audiences.

Nice to have

  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience.
  • In-house product counsel experience at a technology company or law firm experience advising technology clients.
  • Experience with content moderation, platform safety, crisis management, machine learning, security research, infrastructure, or threat intelligence.
  • Familiarity with AI systems and machine learning concepts, plus strong judgment under uncertainty.
