Senior Product Counsel (Data Products, Machine Learning, and AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York City; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are office days.

Salary: $188,000–$255,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Act as primary legal counsel for teams developing AI models, machine learning products, agentic workflows, multimodal outputs, and downstream clinical applications.
• Identify AI-specific legal risks involving model behavior, output accuracy, intellectual property, data provenance, training rights, and liability for generated content.
• Build scalable legal processes, practical frameworks, and contract language for fast-moving AI development.
• Advise on emerging AI regulation and represent company positions with external counsel, regulators, and industry groups when needed.
• Support privacy impact assessments, model risk assessments, and data governance for AI training, fine-tuning, and deployment.
• Partner with legal, product, and compliance stakeholders on transparency, accountability, and human oversight.

Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience, including 4+ years advising on AI, machine learning, or emerging technology products.
• Prior in-house legal experience is required, preferably at a growth-stage AI or healthcare technology company.
• Working knowledge of AI-related intellectual property, copyright, training data rights, model liability, and responsible AI principles.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory and technical concepts into practical guidance for technical and non-legal audiences.
• Strong understanding of federal and state healthcare laws, including HIPAA and data privacy regulations as applied to AI systems.
• Ability to work with ambiguity, tight timelines, and a high volume of novel legal questions.
