Senior Software Engineering Manager, Software Applications

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas or Warren, Michigan, with in-person reporting at least 3 times per week

What you will do

• Lead multiple engineering teams responsible for designing, building, modernizing, integrating, and supporting software applications.
• Set technical direction across modern platforms, business-critical applications, APIs, integrations, and legacy systems.
• Drive legacy modernization through decomposition, platform evolution, integration simplification, and technical debt reduction.
• Make architecture decisions, review designs and code, debug systems, and contribute to technical spikes and hands-on problem solving.
• Establish engineering practices for testing, observability, CI/CD, version control, secure coding, and operational readiness.
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers and technical leaders while managing delivery, incident response, and stakeholder alignment across multiple workstreams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years of technical people leadership experience.
• Experience leading engineering teams and managers responsible for complex enterprise application portfolios.
• Hands-on expertise in software design, coding, code review, debugging, distributed systems, application integration, APIs, event-driven patterns, data flows, and enterprise architecture.
• Demonstrated success modernizing legacy systems while supporting business-critical application delivery, with strong communication, coaching, and stakeholder-influence skills.

Nice to have

• 12+ years of software engineering experience and 7+ years of technical people leadership experience.
• Experience with customer-facing, operational, or enterprise business domains and mainframe-connected or deeply integrated systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms, DevOps tooling, automated testing, observability, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams and operating in high-speed, high-reliability environments.
