Manager, Software Development Engineering (AI)

Location: Flexible hybrid model; in-person interviews may be required, particularly for positions based in Boston and Dublin.

Salary: $186,000–$233,000 USD annual base salary / OTE.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow the Purchase engineering team while building a collaborative, high-performance culture.
• Partner with Product, UX, and Analytics to drive the roadmap from technical design through implementation, testing, measurement, and delivery.
• Champion AI coding assistants, agentic workflows, and AI-driven tooling as core parts of the engineering process.
• Define and deliver intelligent, personalized consumer-facing AI experiences for car shoppers.
• Manage scope, estimation, prioritization, dependencies, and incremental delivery across consumer, dealer, and platform engineering teams.
• Advocate for code quality, observability, system reliability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering management or a technical lead role.
• Strong backend engineering experience with Java/Spring, distributed systems, system design, and data-layer architecture.
• Experience delivering consumer-facing AI features or products and enthusiasm for agentic development.
• Strong project management, Agile delivery, prioritization, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and support their technical and professional growth.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with conversational or agentic AI experiences.
• Experience working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with a data-driven, product-focused mindset.
