Engineering Manager (AI/Java)

Location: Flexible hybrid model; in-person interviews may be required for positions based in the Boston and Dublin offices.

Salary: $186,000–$233,000 USD annual base salary / OTE.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow the Purchase engineering team while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
• Drive the Purchase roadmap from technical design through implementation, testing, measurement, and incremental delivery.
• Champion AI coding assistants, agentic workflows, and AI-native development practices across the team.
• Define and deliver intelligent, personalized consumer-facing AI experiences for car shoppers.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, Analytics, consumer, dealer, and platform engineering teams on priorities, dependencies, and integrations.
• Advocate for code quality, observability, system reliability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering management or a technical lead role.
• Strong backend engineering foundation with Java/Spring, distributed systems, system design, and data layer experience.
• Experience delivering consumer-facing AI features or products; conversational or agentic AI experience is beneficial.
• Strong project management, Agile delivery, estimation, prioritization, and data-driven product decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with conversational or agentic AI experiences.
• Experience leading teams through a transition to AI-native and fully agentic programming practices.
