TL;DR
Systems Engineer III - Project Engineer (Aerospace Defense): Supporting defense and aerospace engineering projects across planning, cross-functional integration, risk tracking, procurement, design reviews, and technical documentation with an accent on systems engineering, DoD acquisition processes, and schedule accountability. Focus on coordinating mechanical, electrical, systems, and software inputs, maintaining integrated master schedules, and supporting requirements through verification and delivery.

Location: Folsom, California; Reno, Nevada; or remote within the United States. Applicants must be U.S. Persons under ITAR/EAR regulations and must have or be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.

Salary: $93,000–$134,000 USD annually in California or Nevada.

What you will do

  • Support technical planning and execution across defense and aerospace engineering projects.
  • Maintain integrated master schedules, milestone plans, work packages, statements of work, and project plans.
  • Coordinate engineering inputs across mechanical, electrical, systems, and software disciplines through cross-functional IPTs.
  • Track technical risks and opportunities, support integration activities, and contribute to trade studies, procurement planning, and make/buy analyses.
  • Prepare for and participate in SRR, PDR, CDR, customer meetings, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Draft and review test plans, engineering change notices, interface documentation, CDRLs, and other contract deliverables.

Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance required or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • U.S. Person status required under ITAR/EAR export regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • 4–7 years of experience in project engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting engineering projects through requirements definition, verification, and delivery, preferably in aerospace, defense, DoD, or MDA programs.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies, DoD acquisition processes, EVM, IMP/IMS scheduling, configuration control, and technical risk tracking.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Control Account Management or similar cost and schedule accountability roles.
  • Experience working with government organizations, prime contractors, or cross-functional engineering teams.
