Senior Software Development Engineer (AI Foundations)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States

Salary: $184,500–$258,000 total cash range, with potential pay up to $295,000 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Design, build, and evolve scalable, resilient services powering agentic AI capabilities.
• Lead low-level system design, API design, and data modeling for complex distributed services.
• Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions across experimentation, training, and production environments.
• Partner with product, applied science, data, and platform teams to define technical direction and deliver reusable features.
• Set standards for code quality, testing, performance, security, reliability, and observability.
• Mentor engineers in modern software and AI development practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 6+ years of professional software development experience with a Master’s degree, or 8+ years with a Bachelor’s degree.
• End-to-end ownership of services or components, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, or Python.
• Experience with system design, API design, data modeling, scalable services, and AI-driven systems or workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-service architectures combining deterministic services with AI/ML or agentic components.
• Operational excellence experience involving observability, SLOs, capacity planning, incident management, and continuous improvement.
• Hands-on experience with model-backed APIs, retrieval-augmented systems, or workflow and agent orchestration frameworks.
• Experience evaluating AI system performance, guardrails, and user impact through data and experimentation.
• Experience building tools, connectors, or orchestration layers for complex travel or commerce systems.
