Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI (IC)

Location: Remote within the United States; preference for candidates based in Atlanta. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $175,000–$185,000 per year

What you will do

• Build the agent platform and internal tooling, including orchestration, tool calling, evaluation harnesses, prompt and version management, tracing, observability, and safety controls.
• Develop RAG, structured extraction, and production inference workflows.
• Embed AI into software development workflows such as code review assistance, test generation, incident support, and developer copilots.
• Ship applied AI features end to end, from prototyping and system design through model selection, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
• Diagnose agent behavior from execution traces and assess AI adoption, failure modes, and tooling gaps across engineering teams.
• Set engineering standards and mentor engineers on reliability, evaluation, incident response, privacy, security, and critical review of AI-generated code.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent, including production systems delivery.
• Direct experience building LLM- or ML-powered features on an Applied AI or product AI team.
• Strong backend and system design skills covering APIs, distributed systems, queues or workflows, observability, and performance.
• Demonstrated judgment in scoping agent tasks, deciding what to delegate, and verifying agent output.
• Experience collaborating with product, design, data/ML, platform, and application engineering partners.
• Track record of mentoring peers and improving engineering quality.

Nice to have

• Experience building SDKs, internal frameworks, or developer tooling for other engineers.
• Practical experience with embeddings, search and retrieval, evaluation methods, and model monitoring.
• Experience building agents or assistants at scale.
• Familiarity with inference latency, cost, caching, vendor and model trade-offs, and deployment patterns.
