Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI (IC)

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates based in Atlanta are preferred.

Salary: $220,000–$250,000 per year

What you will do

• Build the agent platform and internal tooling, including orchestration, tool and function calling, evaluation harnesses, prompt version management, tracing, observability, safety, and guardrails.
• Support retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and production inference workflows.
• Partner with application engineering teams to integrate AI into code review, test generation, incident support, and developer workflows.
• Ship applied AI features from prototype to production, covering data needs, system design, model and vendor selection, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
• Diagnose AI adoption bottlenecks across engineering teams and promote effective use of AI-powered tools.
• Mentor engineers and establish standards for reliability, evaluation, incident response, privacy, security, and AI-generated code review.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent, including production systems.
• Direct experience building LLM- or ML-powered features on an Applied AI or product AI team.
• Strong backend and system design skills across APIs, distributed systems, queues, workflows, observability, and performance.
• Demonstrated judgment in scoping, delegating, and verifying agent work before trusting its output.
• Experience collaborating with product, design, data/ML, and platform stakeholders and mentoring other engineers.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience building SDKs, internal frameworks, or developer tooling for other engineers.
• Practical experience with embeddings, search and retrieval, evaluation methods, and model monitoring.
• Experience building agents, assistants, or other AI-powered products at scale.
• Familiarity with inference latency, cost, caching, model and vendor trade-offs, and deployment patterns.
