TL;DR
Director of People Operations (HR Operations): Building and scaling HR systems, policies, and employee lifecycle programs for a rapidly growing advanced energy company with an accent on compliance, performance management, employee relations, and workforce planning. Focus on designing scalable people infrastructure, managing California employment requirements, and supporting organizational growth from approximately 100 to 500+ employees.
Location: Fully onsite in Torrance, California; candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to Hawthorne, CA.

What you will do
- Own day-to-day HR operations across the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, orientation, leave administration, and accommodations.
- Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and scalable people processes.
- Partner with leadership on employee relations, performance management, organizational effectiveness, and employee development.
- Support compensation administration, salary benchmarking, promotions, workforce planning, headcount forecasting, and recruiting collaboration.
- Maintain HR systems, employee records, reporting infrastructure, and people metrics.
- Improve HR efficiency and consistency while helping preserve company culture during rapid growth.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance requirements.
- Experience managing employee relations, performance management, HR operations, and HR policies or programs.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict-resolution, organizational, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High discretion with confidential information and the ability to work across all organizational levels.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to Hawthorne, California.
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience in high-growth startups, scaling organizations, or industrial environments such as manufacturing, aerospace, defense, energy, or construction.
- Experience implementing HRIS platforms and managing compensation benchmarking or workforce planning.
- Experience supporting salaried and hourly employees and scaling organizations from approximately 100 to 500+ employees.
