TL;DR
Principal Engineer (Nuclear): Designing, analyzing, developing, and qualifying valves, actuators, flow control devices, mechanical equipment, rotary equipment, and structural components for advanced and existing nuclear power plants with an accent on structural, thermal, seismic, and dynamic analysis. Focus on finite element analysis, pressure vessel and metallic component assessment, environmental qualification, regulatory compliance, material selection, and developing solutions for first-of-a-kind products.

Location: Remote/Hybrid; position based in Brea, California, United States

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 per year

What you will do

  • Perform structural/stress, thermal, seismic, and dynamic analyses of valves, actuators, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare professional analysis reports in accordance with accepted industry standards.
  • Review systems and product components for environmental qualification, performance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Recommend materials appropriate for design conditions and performance requirements.
  • Develop solutions based on customer specifications and improve new and existing designs using analysis results.
  • Work with customers and internal teams to identify solutions for existing problems and related business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience, master’s degree with 7+ years, or PhD with 5+ years.
  • Demonstrated experience with Finite Element Analysis; ANSYS is highly preferred.
  • Experience analyzing pressure vessels and metallic components, including valve and/or actuator design and analysis.
  • Experience with ASME BPVC Section III, Section VIII Division 1 or 2, or Section I.
  • Professional engineering licensure in the US or Canada.
  • Export-controlled information access may require additional security screening.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with IEEE 323, IEEE 344, IEEE 382, or ANSI/AISC N690.
  • Experience with parametric modeling; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry.
