TL;DR
Lead, Mechanical Engineering (Reactor Pressure Vessel) (Nuclear Reactor Mechanical Design): Leading the design, analysis, and qualification of pressure boundary components for the Xe-100 small modular reactor with an accent on regulatory compliance, safety, performance, and design licensing. Focus on directing multidisciplinary engineering teams, performing structural and thermal calculations, coordinating FEA and supplier activities, and ensuring high-quality design documentation.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States. Hybrid work with at least 4 days per week in the office. Standard schedule is 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Travel expectation: 20%.

Salary: $150,000–$175,000 per year, base salary only.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, analysis, and qualification of reactor pressure vessel and other pressure boundary components.
  • Direct mechanical design activities supporting advanced reactor plant design, manufacturing, construction, and licensing strategies.
  • Coordinate engineering resources, design-cycle sprints, multidisciplinary teams, partners, suppliers, and fabricators.
  • Plan and perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other engineering calculations for systems, structures, and components.
  • Oversee design documentation, design reviews, configuration data, and compliance with design control procedures.
  • Support engineering strategy, technical methods, tools, staff development, and complex technical decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically seven years of engineering experience; graduate degrees may count as additional experience.
  • Experience designing and developing mechanical or fluid systems, assemblies, or components.
  • Experience with hardware ownership, manufacturing or testing oversight, CAD, and PLM software such as UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, Teamcenter, or Windchill.
  • Experience leading engineering work and coordinating multidisciplinary project activities.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer license or EIT certification with active pursuit of PE licensure.
  • Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, ASME Code Cases, and nuclear-grade pressure vessel design.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, supplier qualification, manufacturing partners, and fabricators.
  • Experience coordinating thermal, nuclear, and structural engineering activities for pressure vessel applications.
  • Proficiency with structural FEA software such as ANSYS or ABAQUS.
