TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer 4 (NSSS Piping & Integration) (Nuclear Piping and Stress Analysis): Designing and analyzing Nuclear Steam Supply System piping and support systems for modular advanced light water reactors with an accent on ASME Section III compliance, nuclear quality assurance, and regulatory requirements. Focus on static and dynamic stress analysis, seismic and fluid-transient loading, CAD model review, and evaluating complex piping and support configurations.

Location: Remote within the contiguous United States; remote work is available for employees residing more than 30 miles from a NuScale office. Travel is required as business needs arise.

Salary: $127,104–$153,401 annually; full pay range $113,955–$178,237 annually.

What you will do

  • Design and perform stress analysis for ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping systems and components.
  • Design and analyze ASME Section III NF pipe supports using hand calculations and ANSYS.
  • Perform static and dynamic analyses covering deadweight, thermal expansion, thermal gradients, seismic events, response spectra, time histories, and fluid transients.
  • Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation for NSSS piping components.
  • Lead evaluations of piping reroutes, support reconfigurations, and other design solutions that satisfy piping stress criteria.
  • Provide oversight and mentoring to early-career engineers in piping and pipe-support stress analysis.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering from a four-year ABET-accredited institution; Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of highly relevant, full-time engineering experience with expert knowledge in ASME Section III piping design and stress analysis.
  • Experience with ASME Section III NB, NC, or ND-3600 requirements; experience with Section III NF is preferred.
  • Experience with Bentley AutoPIPE or a similar piping analysis code; ANSYS experience is preferred.
  • Understanding and implementation of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1 quality requirements.
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Nice to have

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineer license in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Experience reviewing Siemens NX models and collaborating with drafters.
