What you will do

  • Determine welding techniques and procedures for production applications and qualification activities.
  • Generate weld procedure specifications and welder qualification records.
  • Support GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, and PTAW processes used for x-ray-quality structural and seal welds.
  • Resolve complex, non-routine welding and joining problems involving manufacturing, repair work, metallurgy, and material specifications.
  • Develop and manage material-joining work plans, schedules, and resource requirements while improving welding processes.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering, operations, suppliers, customers, and program management; support audits and mentor engineers and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology; degrees in Metallurgy or Materials Science with welding engineering experience are also considered.
  • 6+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience with arc-welding processes, including GTAW, FCAW, or SAW; knowledge of GMAW, SMAW, or PTAW is also considered.
  • Experience with ASME Section III, ASME Section IX, NAVSEA, or Tech Pub welding codes.
  • Experience welding carbon, alloy, and stainless steels, nickel- and copper-based alloys, and dissimilar metals.
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain and maintain DoD security clearances and approvals.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science.
  • Prior experience leading and mentoring engineers.
