TL;DR
Lead Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear): Designing and developing nuclear-qualified mechanical components, systems, sensors, and instrumentation with an accent on ASME Code compliance, reliability, safety, and manufacturing quality. Focus on leading multidisciplinary engineering work, performing design and FEA calculations, resolving technical issues, and developing compliant design deliverables for regulated nuclear applications.

Location: Round Rock, Texas, United States (onsite). The role may involve travel to customers or other sites within the United States.

Salary: $108,000–$135,000 annually, plus bonus.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of nuclear-qualified mechanical components and systems, including prototypes and reliability and safety testing.
  • Perform mechanical design and analysis calculations and apply ASME Code requirements to nuclear sensors and instrumentation.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams when required, coordinating with project managers, clients, sales, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop design proposals, detailed design documents, manufacturing bills of materials, procedures, and technical presentations.
  • Check and approve scoping and FEA calculations, manage technical issue resolution, and implement engineering change control.
  • Prepare bid estimates, define deliverables and exclusions, support commercial proposals, and provide technical guidance to engineers.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • 10+ years of applicable mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent and a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) credential.
  • Experience with ASME Section III, Divisions 1 and 5, and knowledge of ASME Section IX welding requirements.
  • Knowledge of nuclear commercial grade dedication principles and nuclear quality regulations, including 10CFR50 Appendix B, NQA-1, and 10CFR Part 21.
  • Advanced proficiency in SOLIDWORKS Premium and Simulation Premium, with the ability to interpret drawings and calculation summaries.

Nice to have

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or equivalent competency under ASME Section IX.
  • Experience incorporating new mechanical engineering technologies, tools, and techniques into product development.
