Electronics Hardware Engineer (Aerospace & Defence)

Location: Letchworth office, UK

Defense and aerospace engineering organization delivering embedded computing, flight recorder, air data computer, video management, and mission display systems.

What you will do

• Design and develop multilayer PCBs for high-speed embedded computing systems.
• Work with high-speed interfaces including PCIe and Ethernet.
• Contribute to schematic capture and guide PCB layout with signal integrity, grounding, and EMC considerations.
• Perform board bring-up, laboratory debugging, verification, and support for analogue, digital, and power domains.
• Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams and support environmental and qualification testing.
• Participate in design reviews, technical decisions, production support, and resolution of issues in deployed hardware.

Requirements

• Experience in electronic design.
• Understanding of high-speed design, grounding, and EMC, with willingness to develop further.
• Experience with Altium, OrCAD, or similar PCB design tools.
• Hands-on hardware debugging and laboratory experience.
• Practical problem-solving mindset.

Nice to have

• VPX or XMC experience.
• DC-DC power supply design experience.
• Aerospace or defence background, including CDR, PDR, or DO-245-related work.
• Exposure to qualification testing.
