Sustainability Methodology Scientist

Location

Location: Must be willing to work from an office 4 days per week in San Francisco, New York, Denver, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, or Mexico City

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and improve hirify.global’s sustainability methodologies based on scientific standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to design scientifically rigorous and scalable methodology features.
• Work directly with the codebase by reviewing implementations, writing technical specifications, and contributing to tests.
• Interpret evolving sustainability standards and frameworks and reflect them in the product.
• Investigate complex questions at the intersection of sustainability science, data quality, and business context.
• Communicate methodology choices clearly to customers, auditors, and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Must be willing to work onsite 4 days per week in one of the company’s offices
• Master’s or PhD in climate science, environmental science, sustainability, or related quantitative field.
• 5+ years experience in corporate sustainability, carbon accounting, or related fields.
• Deep knowledge of GHG accounting standards and sustainability reporting frameworks.
• Comfortable working in a Python codebase and collaborating with engineers and data scientists.
• Strong communication skills for diverse audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience building or maintaining carbon accounting methodologies or sustainability software.
• Familiarity with assurance or audit processes for GHG inventories.
• Experience with Python, SQL, Typescript for data work.
• Experience translating complex standards into technical specifications or product requirements.
