Associate Attorney (Insurance Litigation)

Location: Primarily remote from the United States, with reporting to the Troy, Michigan office roughly once every 6 weeks and required in-person court appearances.

Salary: $95,000–$115,000 annually, with performance-based annual bonus potential.

What you will do

• Handle intermediate-complexity civil litigation where an insured or the company is a defendant.
• Review insurance policies, allegations, medical records, technical data, and liability issues.
• Draft complaints, answers, motions, discovery materials, and trial documents.
• Conduct depositions, examinations under oath, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.
• Prepare and present cases for trial, including jury selection, witness examination, motions, and closing arguments.
• Advise clients and claims personnel, coordinate with co-counsel, and recommend appeals when appropriate.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree or graduation from an accredited law school.
• Membership in the applicable state bar is required.
• At least two years of experience as a licensed attorney handling litigation.
• Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedure, evidence, discovery, mediation, tort liability, insurance law, and insurance contract interpretation.
• Knowledge of Michigan Court Rules, motion practice, and Michigan no-fault law.
• Ability to analyze and communicate legal facts and evidence effectively in written and oral form.

• Trial experience.
• Personal injury, no-fault, or insurance litigation experience.
• Knowledge of claims procedures and branch organizations.
