Research Security Consultant

Location: United States - Remote. Periodic travel may be required based on business and client needs.

Salary: $125,000–$200,000 USD per year, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Implement and maintain university research security and export controls compliance programs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and institutional point of contact for research security, export controls, and compliance inquiries.
• Conduct risk assessments, develop work plans, corrective actions, mitigation plans, and technology control plans.
• Make export control determinations, assess licensing requirements, manage license processes, and serve as the empowered official for ITAR.
• Manage restricted-party screening, international visitor and travel reviews, controlled equipment and shipment processes, and related training.
• Review research proposals, grants, contracts, nondisclosure agreements, and reporting requirements while partnering with faculty, staff, counsel, sponsored research, and other institutional functions.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC regulations, and federal contracting requirements.
• At least 5 years of direct experience with a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of advanced education and experience.
• Experience developing and implementing research compliance programs, global trade compliance, and/or research operations.
• Ability to interpret, synthesize, and explain complex federal regulations and develop robust online training materials.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted advisor relationships and collaborate across departments.
• Experience supporting sales and business development; flexibility to travel periodically is required.
