Metro Detroit Field Property Claim Specialist (Insurance)

Location: Detroit, Michigan, serving Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Hybrid field schedule, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM EST, with travel to homes and repair facilities and occasional overnight travel outside the assigned territory.

Salary: $70,000–$85,000 annually, plus an annual company bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Review and investigate assigned property claims, including complex coverage questions, applicable state law, exclusions, and recovery potential.
• Inspect property damage in the field, prepare damage estimates using claims software, and review estimates for accuracy.
• Evaluate the financial value of losses, identify applicable policyholder benefits, and approve payments.
• Contact insureds and other affected parties, set expectations, negotiate settlements, and provide claim resolutions.
• Document, code, and close claim files in the claims management system, creating sub-claims and referrals when necessary.
• Monitor contractor repair status and assist with file reviews and training as needed.

Requirements

• Three years of experience or equivalent training in claim settlement negotiation, evidence evaluation, estimates, subrogation, coverage resolution, statements, and claim resolution planning.
• Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a state adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire where required.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for field inspections.
• Advanced knowledge of Michigan insurance law, fair trade practices, subrogation, intercompany arbitration, simple litigation, and building construction and repair techniques.
• Ability to travel, handle time-sensitive claims, communicate effectively, solve problems, and potentially work evenings or weekends.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in business administration, insurance, claims, management, or a related field.
• CPCU coursework or designation, Xactware training, and full-cycle homeowners claims experience.
• Experience with personal property, additional living expense, water loss, fire, and smoke claims.
• Ability to walk on roofs, climb ladders, and lift up to 25 pounds.
