VP of Engineering, Storage Protocols (Storage)

Location: United States; remote-friendly, with meaningful time expected in San Jose, California

What you will do

• Lead technical strategy and execution across ONTAP File, Block, and Object protocol teams and the StorageGRID engineering organization.
• Own architectural roadmaps for object storage, multiprotocol data access, and protocol integration across the portfolio.
• Guide storage performance, reliability, scalability, standards participation, and protocol compliance across enterprise and hyperscaler ecosystems.
• Lead major customer escalations involving protocol behavior at scale across engineering, support, and field teams.
• Shape organizational design and ownership boundaries within Platform Engineering.
• Build and retain a high-performing, multilayered engineering leadership team of approximately 350 engineers.

Requirements

• 15+ years of engineering leadership experience in storage, infrastructure, or platform software.
• 8+ years leading multiple layers of engineering management.
• Deep technical fluency in enterprise distributed systems, storage protocols, large-scale networking, or comparable infrastructure domains.
• Experience resolving ambiguous architectural and organizational design questions and leading large-scale customer escalations.
• Excellent executive communication and effective partnership with Product Management.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience building storage or data infrastructure for AI/ML training, inference, or data pipelines.
• Experience restructuring or right-sizing engineering organizations based on evidence.
• A leadership style focused on developing others rather than relying on positional authority.
