Claim Specialist – Michigan PIP (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid in Michigan (MI); day-to-day operations may be performed remotely from a home office, with occasional travel for meetings, collaboration, inspections, or team activities. Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm ET.

Salary: $67,300-$75,000 annually, plus potential annual bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Review assigned claims, initiate handling activities, gather information, and set expectations with insureds and other affected parties.
• Analyze coverage, policy benefits, limits, exclusions, claim facts, damages, and applicable state laws.
• Investigate and manage intermediate to complex Michigan PIP claims, including fractures, mild closed head injuries, surgical procedures, attendant care, and MCCA claims.
• Evaluate losses, authorize payments, negotiate settlements, and develop claim evaluation and resolution plans.
• Manage sub-claims, attorney-represented claims, litigation-related matters, recovery opportunities, and referrals to specialized departments.
• Document claim activity, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with claim standards, company procedures, and state regulations.

Requirements

• Three years of experience or equivalent training in claim settlement negotiation, evidence evaluation, estimating, subrogation, coverage resolution, taking statements, and claim planning.
• Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge or experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Michigan Essential Insurance Act, Fair Trade Practices Act, subrogation, intercompany arbitration, negligence law, no-fault law, medical terminology, MCCA, and attorney-represented claims.
• Effective communication, customer service, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, prioritization, and organizational skills.
• Eligibility to obtain a required state adjuster license within 90 days of hire and maintain it where applicable.
• A valid driver's license is required when the role involves in-person inspections or frequent in-person meetings; travel outside the assigned territory, evenings, or weekends may be required.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or a related field.
• Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field.
• Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent.
• CPCU coursework or designation.
