Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer (Data Center Power & Cooling)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time. The role includes 40–60% travel to supplier and integrator factories across the US and internationally, with occasional visits to active construction sites.

What you will do

• Lead supplier qualification, process audits, capability assessments, and manufacturing readiness reviews for data center power and cooling equipment.
• Translate engineering specifications into inspection and test plans, acceptance criteria, witness and hold points, and documentation requirements.
• Plan, witness, and approve factory acceptance tests for switchgear, UPS systems, transformers, generators, busway, chillers, CDUs, air handlers, pumps, and piping skids.
• Conduct in-process and pre-shipment inspections and verify build-to-print conformance, workmanship, labeling, traceability, and installation readiness.
• Own factory nonconformance and deviation processes, including containment, disposition, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action closure.
• Track supplier quality KPIs, apply statistical analysis, and build scalable audit standards, templates, checklists, and operating processes.

Requirements

• 6–10+ years of quality engineering, manufacturing quality, or supplier quality experience in electrical or mechanical equipment manufacturing, mission-critical infrastructure, or a comparable regulated industry.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major data center equipment category, such as switchgear, UPS, generators, transformers, busway, chillers, CDUs, air handlers, or pumps.
• Experience planning and witnessing factory acceptance tests and conducting supplier audits, with sound judgment on shipment acceptance and deviations.
• Strong knowledge of structured quality methods, including 8D, root-cause analysis, FMEA, SPC, control plans, and PPAP or equivalent.
• Ability to read electrical one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings and check manufactured equipment against them.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience; strong technical writing and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with hyperscale or AI data center equipment supply chains or OFCI delivery models.
• Familiarity with liquid-cooling systems and their cleanliness, pressure, and leak-testing requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant UL, IEEE, NEMA, AHRI, ASHRAE, ASME, and ISO 9001 standards.
• ASQ CQE/CQA, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, or lead-auditor certification.
• Experience establishing a supplier quality function or QMS, plus familiarity with QMS/ERP platforms, SQL, or Power BI.
