TL;DR
Senior Power Studies Engineer (Data Centers): Developing and reviewing electrical power studies for mission critical data centers and campuses with an accent on short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, reliability, and Neher-McGrath thermal ampacity analysis. Focus on modeling highly redundant power systems, directing junior and mid-level engineers, coordinating with clients and equipment manufacturers, and delivering complex projects to schedule.

Location: Atlanta, GA; Clifton Park, NY; Dallas, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Remote, US; Seattle, WA. Hybrid working arrangement with occasional project-site travel, typically less than 5%.

Base compensation: $125,000–$350,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Direct and independently execute electrical power studies for mission critical buildings and campuses.
  • Complete short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, reliability, and Neher-McGrath thermal ampacity studies.
  • Model medium-voltage distribution, redundant power systems, on-site generation, UPS backup, and house power distribution.
  • Coordinate with electrical design leads, clients, contractors, and equipment manufacturers to collect system information and define requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate small teams across multiple projects while meeting scheduled deliverables.
  • Mentor engineers and designers and contribute to internal training, design standards, and quality-control practices.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in facility electrical design, particularly power-system studies using SKM.
  • Four-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus preferred; relevant two-year or EET degrees with experience may be considered.
  • Experience with short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies for large industrial or commercial buildings, preferably with more than 1,000 buses.
  • Experience with mission critical designs, alternate power paths, complex topologies, and highly redundant systems is strongly valued.
  • Ability to lead small teams, interface with clients, communicate clearly, and manage multiple project deadlines.
  • Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, Reliasoft BlockSim, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with construction administration, submittals, shop drawings, existing-condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
  • Experience with Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems.
