TL;DR
Senior or Staff Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer (TRISO fuel and reactor licensing): Owning safety analysis deliverables for the Mark 1 advanced microreactor, including intact-event analysis, source term calculations, and radiological dose evaluations with an accent on TRISO fuel behavior, reactor physics, and uncertainty propagation. Focus on developing defensible licensing-basis calculations, qualifying analysis codes under a nuclear quality program, and coordinating technical work across multidisciplinary engineering and regulatory teams.

Location: Los Angeles, United States

Salary: $150K–$220K per year plus equity.

Company

hirify.global is a Series C startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.

What you will do

  • Own the scope, technical approach, schedule, quality, and delivery of Mark 1 reactor safety analysis.
  • Perform and oversee deterministic analysis of intact events using PIRT and other phenomena-scoping methods.
  • Develop TRISO fuel source-term models covering coating-layer failure, fission-product release and transport, radionuclide grouping, and dose drivers.
  • Quantify how reactor physics and neutronics uncertainties propagate into fuel performance, source-term, and dose calculations.
  • Coordinate analysis inputs and design-basis requirements across core, fuel, mechanical, materials, I&C, and plant-systems teams.
  • Support licensing applications, regulator responses, testing and qualification planning, and follow-on reactor designs.

Requirements

  • B.S. in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field; an M.S. or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • 4+ years of relevant reactor safety analysis experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience with a system-level thermal-hydraulic or systems analysis code such as RELAP5-3D, TRACE, SAM, GOTHIC, SAS4A/SASSYS-1, or MELCOR.
  • Working knowledge of TRISO or advanced fuel performance, source terms, radiological dose calculations, reactor physics, and neutronics uncertainty propagation.
  • Experience with technical writing, quality-affecting calculations, methodology reports, regulatory submittals, or comparable documentation.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under U.S. export regulations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with PRA, risk-informed licensing, DOE or NRC advanced-reactor frameworks, and regulatory guidance.
  • Experience with V&V and formal qualification of safety-analysis codes under ASME NQA-1 or similar nuclear quality programs.
  • Experience with ORIGEN, MACCS, RASCAL, atmospheric dispersion, PARFUME, BISON, AGREE, MCNP, Serpent, or SCALE.
  • Experience with advanced-fuel qualification and irradiation testing programs or prior work at a reactor developer, national laboratory, or nuclear supplier.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with a significant stock option package.
  • Values systems thinking, probabilistic decision-making, and questioning fundamental assumptions.
  • Encourages unconventional solutions to complex energy, defense, and space challenges.
  • Deep work can be done from anywhere, while in-person collaboration and direct engagement with customers and stakeholders are emphasized.
