Senior Neutronics Engineer (Isotope Production)

Location: Santa Clara, California, or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to the Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter based on business or team needs, and must work onsite there for the first two weeks of onboarding. Applicants must meet the definition of a U.S. person under applicable U.S. export control laws.

Salary: $130,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop and execute neutronics analyses supporting reactor core design, optimization, operation, safety evaluation, and isotope production.
• Build models using MCNP, Serpent, SCALE, and deterministic or Monte Carlo neutron transport methods.
• Perform depletion, burnup, fuel management, activation, decay, transmutation, shielding, source-term, and dose analyses.
• Design and optimize irradiation targets against isotope yield, activity, purity, heat, production schedule, and safety objectives.
• Develop, qualify, and maintain computational methods, workflows, cross-section libraries, reference models, automated tests, and reproducible data processing.
• Support design reviews, startup testing, irradiation experiments, safety evaluations, licensing activities, and responses to regulatory questions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in a technical field such as nuclear engineering, with experience in reactor design and analysis.
• Fluency with Python and proficiency with high-performance computing systems.
• Proficiency with MCNP, Serpent, or SCALE, including tools such as TRITON, KENO, SAMPLER, TSUNAMI, or MAVRIC.
• Knowledge of reactor physics, radiation transport, shielding calculations, variance reduction, and sensitivity and uncertainty analysis.
• Ability to qualify computational methods through benchmarks, experiments, verification, and validation.
• Must meet the definition of a U.S. person under applicable U.S. export control laws.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with irradiation experiments at a research or test reactor.
• Experience with light-water, research, or test reactor analysis.
