Industrial Engineer / Ergonomist (Manufacturing)

Location: Romulus, Michigan, United States. This is an onsite role requiring attendance at the assigned GM worksite five days per week, including off-shift hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency support as needed. The position may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Implement industrial engineering practices, lean material strategies, standardized work, and GM manufacturing systems to improve material flow and eliminate waste.
• Design and improve work operations to meet safety, quality, ergonomic, delivery, and efficiency requirements.
• Conduct manpower time studies, motion analyses, standard-time calculations, part-routing updates, area-layout maintenance, and bottleneck evaluations.
• Lead plant ergonomics activities with UAW partners, including risk assessments, injury and illness data analysis, metrics, and corrective actions.
• Apply ergonomic design requirements to jobs and material-handling systems, collaborate on job modifications, and manage issues through closure.
• Coach production-floor teams and communicate updates to safety boards, joint health and safety committees, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, ergonomics, or a closely related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least two years of industrial engineering or ergonomics experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
• Experience conducting time studies, motion analysis, or ergonomic risk assessments.
• Ability to organize and execute projects while managing multiple priorities, with strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Romulus, Michigan, including off-shift hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency plant support.
• Must already have authorization to work in the United States; GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience with STDS, APS, GMOS, TED, and other GM ergonomics, production, or manufacturing systems.
• Knowledge of AMR or AGV material-handling systems.
