Senior Attorney

Location: MI-Grand Rapids, United States. Primarily remote after in-office training, with required office reporting approximately once every 6 weeks or 1–2 times per month, plus in-person court appearances. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Salary: $110,000–$150,000 annually, with annual bonus potential based on performance.

What you will do

• Handle complex to highly complex personal injury, no-fault, and insurance litigation involving cases of unlimited exposure.
• Manage case analysis, pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, subpoenas, medical and technical evidence, and pre-trial preparation.
• Develop defense strategies and conduct trials, including opening and closing statements, witness examination, motion arguments, jury selection, and trial briefs.
• Evaluate liability, damages, settlements, arbitration awards, appeals, and cost-benefit considerations.
• Advise claims personnel, insureds, and clients on coverage, liability, damages, independent counsel, and litigation status.
• Participate in legal council and office committees and mentor less experienced attorneys.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree or graduation from an accredited law school.
• Membership in the state bar of the applicable state.
• At least five years of experience as a licensed attorney in personal injury, no-fault, or insurance litigation, or three years as an Associate Attorney at ACG Staff Counsel with qualifying performance reviews.
• Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, rules of evidence, discovery, mediation, tort liability, insurance law, policy interpretation, and legal research.
• Knowledge of Michigan Court Rules, motion practice, jury instructions, and professional ethics relating to house counsel and insureds.
• Ability to communicate effectively and analyze, organize, and present legal facts and evidence in written and oral form.

Nice to have

• Trial experience.
• Experience in first-party no-fault or auto insurance defense litigation.
• Knowledge of Michigan’s No-Fault Act and significant related case law.
• Experience with defense trial practice, legal research projects, seminars, or professional organizations.
