TL;DR
Lead Quality Engineer (Aerospace & Defense): Leading customer-facing program quality engineering, AS9100 quality management system activities, supplier quality, audits, and corrective action across manufacturing and software development with an accent on aerospace and defense compliance, customer quality, and continual improvement. Focus on driving 8D CAPA, resolving nonconformances, managing supplier and internal audits, and maintaining quality metrics and calibration processes.

Location: Onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, United States; occasional travel to customers and other hirify.global Defense Solutions sites is required.

Salary: $108,900–$145,000 per year plus bonus

What you will do

  • Lead customer-facing program quality engineering, quality contract reviews, supplier quality, and inspection release activities.
  • Maintain and improve the site’s AS9100-compliant Quality Management System across manufacturing and software development.
  • Execute internal, supplier, customer, AS9100, CMMI, and government-related audits.
  • Drive corrective action, 8D CAPA, SCAR resolution, root cause analysis, and responses to customer audit findings.
  • Partner with Program Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Contracts, and Engineering to resolve product and customer nonconformances.
  • Manage quality metrics, COPQ analysis, engineering change support, calibration processes, data-pack reviews, and vendor quality issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering, or a technical equivalent, with at least 10 years of related experience; alternatively, a graduate degree with at least 7 years of related experience.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining a registered AS9100 QMS for manufacturing and software development.
  • Expertise in 8D or another structured problem-solving methodology, corrective action, audits, and customer quality interfaces.
  • Knowledge of J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610 Rev D Class 3, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and IPC-7711/7721.
  • Strong analytical, written, oral communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and process plans; knowledge of tooling calibration and asset maintenance.

Nice to have

  • CMMI Capability Level 3 appraisal experience.
  • ASQ CMQOE or ASQ CQE certification.
  • SAP S/4HANA experience.
  • SQL, Python, or Power BI dashboard development experience.
