AEGIS Senior Software Engineer (Defense)

Location: 100% onsite in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United States; up to 10% travel may be required.

Salary: $135,000–$273,000 per year; pay ranges may vary by experience, skills, education, and position level.

What you will do

• Provide technical direction during design reviews, code reviews, and system-level engineering discussions.
• Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance software applications and services.
• Lead complex feature implementation, defect resolution, troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
• Integrate software components, APIs, and third-party systems into existing environments.
• Support deployment, modernization, integration, testing, and release activities across teams.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, refine requirements, and create technical documentation and operational procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience and previous technical leadership experience on a software project.
• Strong experience with one or more of C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience with Git, Linux-based environments, SQL, relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and container technologies such as Docker, Podman, or OCI-compliant containers.
• Experience supporting integration, test execution, and release activities across teams, with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance and work onsite in Mount Laurel, NJ.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with the Aegis Weapon System.
• Experience with Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Groovy scripting and automation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, Agile development, DevSecOps, cloud-native technologies, or platform engineering.
• Experience developing, modernizing, or sustaining complex software systems.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and independently drive technical work to completion.
