Senior Software Engineer (Java/AI)

Location: Hybrid in Rochester, New York, United States. Occasional in-person participation is required for business meetings, team events, or collaboration; candidates within approximately 35 miles of Rochester may be asked to work from the office more frequently.

Salary: $90,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Partner with customers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into development tasks and deliver reliable software solutions.
• Design and develop secure, maintainable Java solutions using effective abstractions and code isolation.
• Define testing approaches, validate functionality, participate in pull requests, and uphold engineering best practices.
• Diagnose and resolve application issues across multiple services using systematic debugging.
• Identify dependencies, coordinate implementation, and maintain documentation for future upgrades and maintenance.
• Mentor junior engineers and apply AI-assisted tools to improve productivity, quality, automation, and problem-solving.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience with Java, Spring Framework, React, Python, MongoDB, and Kafka.
• Experience with enterprise development in an Agile environment and across the software development lifecycle.
• Experience with Oracle or SQL Server, SOAP and/or REST web services, and defect tracking software.
• Experience mentoring coworkers and collaborating in a self-organizing team environment.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
