Controls Engineer (PLC/SCADA)

Location: Gastonia, North Carolina, United States; travel to CWST sites worldwide is required for equipment installation and technical support.

Salary: $100,000–$115,000 annually; the range is a general guideline for positions based in North Carolina and may vary for junior engineers.

What you will do

• Develop electrical, controls, and automation solutions for industrial equipment built in the Gastonia facility.
• Design and program PLC, SCADA, robotic, and other machine control systems throughout the full software and systems life cycle.
• Contribute to mechanical design and troubleshoot machine feedback, controls, and equipment behavior.
• Prepare electrical hardware designs, wiring layouts, schematics, and diagrams using CAD tools.
• Provide technical support for equipment deployed at CWST facilities worldwide.
• Install, configure, test, and document control systems at global CWST sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
• At least 3 years of experience in a similar or complementary role.
• Experience with electrical systems and components, including circuit breakers, relays, switches, transmitters, and power supplies.
• Ability to apply sound engineering judgment to resolve technical challenges.
• Knowledge of communication protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, and EtherCAT.
• Willingness to travel to CWST sites for equipment installation and support.

Nice to have

• Programming experience with PLCs, industrial automation software, LabVIEW, or C++.
• Experience creating electrical wiring layouts, schematics, and diagrams with CAD tools, especially SolidWorks Electrical.
• Experience with Siemens and Beckhoff platforms.
• Experience with manufacturing processes.
• Junior engineers with some of the listed requirements are also considered.
