Senior Electrical Engineer (Fusion Energy)

What you will do

• Lead complex high-power electrical designs for SPARC’s pulsed power system.
• Develop technical requirements for vendor electrical equipment using power-system simulations and analysis.
• Create test methods and qualification plans for newly developed electrical designs.
• Lead installation, testing, commissioning, and operations handover.
• Release electrical work packages including equipment lists, drawings, and schematics.
• Coordinate with R&D, physics, construction, manufacturing, software, testing, compliance, commissioning, procurement, and vendors.

Requirements

• 8+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 6+ years with a master’s degree, focused on power-electronics-based systems.
• Experience leading technical teams and contributing hands-on to engineering projects from concept through implementation.
• Proven experience designing and implementing power systems in the electrical power industry.
• Extensive experience with medium- and low-voltage AC/DC distribution, power conversion, and energy storage systems.
• Experience with modeling, simulation, analysis, and validation through functional testing.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and work around industrial hazards including high voltage, high current, strong magnets, lead, pressure systems, and cryogenics; occasional travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work may be required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering focused on power systems or power electronics.
• Experience applying electrical engineering to construction, manufacturing, testing, and field installations.
• Experience with batteries, capacitors, prototype builds, root-cause analysis, and field containment actions.
