TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Fusion Energy): Designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for commercially viable fusion power plants with an accent on process efficiency, quality systems, and production tooling. Focus on troubleshooting equipment, applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, and improving production capabilities during the weekend night shift.

Location: On-site in Devens, Massachusetts, United States. Weekend second shift: Friday through Sunday, 6:00 pm–6:00 am.

Salary: $126,000–$212,000 per year, including a 15% shift differential, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, efficiency, cost, and product quality.
  • Own magnet manufacturing for the assigned shift and make real-time decisions within defined operational guardrails.
  • Develop process documentation, including work instructions, SOPs, and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, production, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure product manufacturability.
  • Lead the design and procurement of production tools, fixtures, and equipment, including automation solutions.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, conduct time and motion studies, and implement corrective and continuous-improvement actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing or production engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD and manufacturing ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to balance autonomy and disciplined escalation.
  • Ability to work the required Friday–Sunday overnight schedule, occasionally travel or work on-call, lift up to 50 lbs, and work safely around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
