Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. Weekend second shift: Friday through Sunday, 6:00 pm–6:00 am. The role may occasionally require travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $126,000–$212,000 per year, including a 15% shift differential; equity and benefits included. Another listed range is $134,000–$205,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, implement, analyze, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, efficiency, cost, and product quality.
• Own magnet manufacturing for the shift, make real-time decisions within established guardrails, and escalate issues outside defined limits.
• Develop and maintain work instructions, SOPs, process flow diagrams, and other process documentation.
• Collaborate with design and development engineers, production, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure product manufacturability.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, conduct time and motion studies, and support continuous improvement across the facility.
• Lead the design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment; troubleshoot process and equipment issues; and evaluate automation technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, and manufacturing ERP systems.
• Ability to balance autonomy with disciplined escalation and demonstrate leadership through hands-on engagement.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and perform typing, standing, stooping, and sitting for extended periods.
• Dedication to safety when working around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
