Facilities Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, with up to 50% travel to the San Leandro, California facility during the first year.

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

hirify.global is developing a pulser-driven inertial fusion system and the components required for affordable clean-energy systems.

What you will do

• Integrate the fusion demonstration system design with facility mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
• Oversee external design consultants and technical deliverables for large-scale mechanical and electrical hardware.
• Coordinate infrastructure documentation for permitting, construction, and long-term operations.
• Support physical assembly, construction, and installation of critical fusion-system subsystems.
• Develop utility systems including high-voltage electrical distribution, specialized cooling loops, and vacuum infrastructure.
• Support commissioning and transition of building systems into full-scale research operations.

Requirements

• BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience designing, constructing, and commissioning large-scale industrial or scientific research facilities.
• Experience managing complex M&E infrastructure, including high-voltage power, process piping, and industrial cooling.
• Experience managing engineering consultants and large-scale hardware procurement contracts.
• Ability to work proactively and navigate ambiguity in a first-of-a-kind research project.
• Ability to influence scientists, engineers, and contractors across functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience at a national laboratory or another highly regulated research environment.
• Experience with radiological shielding, hot cells, or high-energy physics hazards.
• Knowledge of pulsed-power infrastructure, ultra-high vacuum environments, or cryogenic systems.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience translating research requirements from PhD scientists and R&D organizations into physical hardware.
