TL;DR
Design Release Engineer - Bumper, Grille, Fascia, and Exterior Trim (Automotive): Designing, engineering, and releasing bumper, grille, fascia, and exterior trim subsystems through vehicle development and production launch with an accent on cross-functional product development, packaging, and design validation. Focus on developing interface requirements, balancing cost, timing, mass, and warranty objectives, and resolving launch issues with assembly plants and engineering teams.

Location: Warren, Michigan; hybrid schedule with on-site work at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

  • Design, engineer, and release bumper, grille, fascia, and exterior trim subsystems.
  • Support or lead cross-functional Product Development Teams involving suppliers, designers, engineers, validation, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and related functions.
  • Develop in-house designs and deliver components on schedule and with the required quality through program milestones.
  • Package BGFT components and directed-buy components such as sensors, cameras, harnesses, and lamps.
  • Develop criteria and typical sections using Unigraphics math data and collaborate with the studio on surface development.
  • Create interface control requirements, support design reviews, and resolve launch issues with assembly plants and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Design Release Engineer or in a relevant industry role.
  • Experience executing vehicle development cycles from concept through production launch.
  • Strong communication skills for working with internal and external customer organizations.
  • Program management and physics-based problem-solving skills.
  • Existing U.S. work authorization without requiring current or future immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Green Belt DFSS certification.
  • Design for Manufacturing and plastic injection molding design knowledge.
  • Stamping, metal forming, fixture design, or product validation experience.
  • Experience with DFMEA and GD&T.
  • Budget management experience.
