Engineer, Body Systems Engineering Team – Body Metals Team (Automotive)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office. Regular travel is required to the manufacturing site in Columbia, South Carolina, the Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan, suppliers, and testing facilities.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Own body metal subsystem development from concept design through production launch.
• Lead technical decision-making and approve technical solutions within the assigned subsystem scope.
• Manage technical performance, cost, quality, timing, and integration targets through series production.
• Coordinate cross-functional planning with design, manufacturing, purchasing, finance, quality, logistics, and technical program teams.
• Drive technical evaluations, trade-off decisions, issue resolution, and production release activities.
• Create sourcing documentation and agree on timing progression for parts and systems against program deliverables.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in body engineering development or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with CAD design for closure systems or related vehicle components.
• Advanced experience analyzing structural performance, motion forces, kinematic performance, and manufacturing options.
• Knowledge of automotive design and development processes, system requirements, and engineering best practices.
• Willingness and ability to work primarily from the Charlotte office and travel to suppliers, manufacturing, and testing facilities.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and significant additional experience.
• Knowledge of Volkswagen Group tools and processes.
• Experience with CATIA V5 and/or 3DEXPERIENCE.
