TL;DR
Systems Engineer (AI/ML): Designing, implementing, testing, and integrating complex tactical systems software for Navy surface and unmanned platforms with an accent on legacy modernization, distributed systems, and software architecture. Focus on prototyping AI/ML solutions, deconstructing combat-system code, refining customer requirements, and supporting integration at laboratory and government test sites.

Location: Hybrid/on-site in Arlington, Virginia or Mount Laurel, New Jersey, requiring at least 4 days in the office

Salary: $74,000–$184,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, implement, test, and integrate complex software using C, C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java.
  • Analyze and modernize legacy monolithic software through brownfield and greenfield development approaches.
  • Assess and deconstruct Navy tactical system code for Surface Navy combat systems.
  • Prototype next-generation solutions using artificial intelligence, machine learning, distributed processing, and modeling.
  • Elicit and document customer requirements, present technical and project progress, and contribute to software architecture.
  • Support design reviews, code reviews, testing, and integration at IDT laboratories and government Land Based Test Sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 0–5 years of full-time professional experience and familiarity with combat-system software and DOD tactical systems.
  • Experience with C, C++, Python, and/or Java; Linux development and shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, algorithms, data structures, software design patterns, Agile development, Git, and DevSecOps.
  • Ability to decompose requirements, define specifications, translate ambiguous customer needs into solutions, and explain algorithmic complexity.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance; ability to work on-site with up to 10% travel.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AEGIS or SSDS tactical systems and their source libraries.
  • Experience with Make, Maven, Ant, X-Windows, MBSE, Jenkins, Jira, and the Atlassian tool suite.
  • Knowledge of networking, VMware vSphere, Azure, containers, and complex mixed-code development environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, problem-solving, teamwork, and planning skills.
