Member of Technical Staff - System Engineering

Location: South San Francisco or Toronto; hybrid in Toronto and on-site work specified

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 estimated annual base salary, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and build production systems that orchestrate AI agent execution and scientific workloads.
• Build and operate scalable infrastructure across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises enterprise environments.
• Develop sandboxed execution, secure task isolation, access control, and compliance foundations.
• Design and operate distributed file systems, object storage, databases, and other data systems for large-scale scientific workloads.
• Partner with machine learning and science teams to convert computational workflows into production-grade distributed systems.

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry experience in backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or a similar programming language.
• Production experience designing and operating distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with containerization, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi, and at least one major cloud provider.
• Experience operating large-scale distributed file systems, storage platforms, or databases in production.
• Ability to own systems end-to-end in a fast-moving, autonomous environment.

Nice to have

• R&D infrastructure experience in pharma or biotech.
• Experience with scientific computing, bioinformatics, HPC, or machine learning workloads.
• Experience with job orchestration, task scheduling, workflow engines, or sandboxed execution frameworks.
• Familiarity with distributed storage, observability systems, or high-performance computing environments.
