Senior Software Engineer (C++)

Location: On-site in Arlington, Virginia, requiring at least 5 days per week in the office. Applicants must currently possess an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Salary: $135,000–$273,000 per year, with additional experience-based pay ranges of $135,000–$231,000 and $164,000–$273,000.

What you will do

• Support the full development lifecycle, including system design, implementation, integration, testing, and deployment of complex DoD and Navy systems.
• Analyze architectures for distributed combat systems spanning hardware, software, and networks.
• Design, develop, and maintain real-time software for Navy combat systems and tactical data processing.
• Develop software interfaces using TCP/UDP, DDS, ActiveMQ, Kafka, and RabbitMQ.
• Lead integration and test execution across cross-functional engineering, cybersecurity, logistics, program management, and test organizations.
• Support system certification, verification, validation, technical reviews, and government briefings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related STEM field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering or integration roles.
• Strong proficiency in C++, Java, or another real-time systems programming language.
• Experience with Linux/Unix environments, real-time operating systems, Git or SVN, distributed systems, and software integration testing.
• Experience supporting U.S. Navy combat systems integration, testing, or sustainment, with knowledge of real-time distributed systems, radar systems, and weapon-control logic.
• Ability to travel up to 25% and manage multiple concurrent assignments.

Nice to have

• Experience with Navy surface warfare systems such as Aegis Weapon System, SSDS, or Link-16.
• Technical leadership or principal engineering experience.
• Knowledge of missile defense, air and missile warfare, or integrated fire-control systems.
• Experience developing interface control documents and troubleshooting large-scale distributed DoD software systems.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, experimentation, integration, and capability demonstrations.
