Senior Software Engineer (Defense)

Location: Fully onsite in Arlington, Virginia, United States. Ability to travel up to 25%; applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Salary: $135,000–$273,000 per year; published pay ranges also include $135,000–$231,000 and $164,000–$273,000 depending on experience, skills, and education. Bonuses, commissions, tips, and benefits are excluded.

What you will do

• Support the full development lifecycle, including system design, implementation, integration, testing, and deployment of complex DoD and Navy systems.
• Analyze architectures for distributed combat systems spanning hardware, software, and networks.
• Design, develop, and maintain real-time software for Navy combat systems and tactical data processing.
• Develop interfaces using TCP/UDP, DDS, ActiveMQ, Kafka, and RabbitMQ.
• Collaborate with program management, cybersecurity, software, hardware, logistics, and test organizations.
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, system engineering discussions, certification, verification, validation, technical reviews, and stakeholder briefings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM field, or equivalent relevant full-time experience.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering or integration roles.
• Strong proficiency in C++, Java, or another real-time systems programming language.
• Experience with Linux/Unix-based environments, real-time operating systems, Git or SVN, and software development environments.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle, systems engineering processes, requirements traceability, and configuration management.
• Strong system integration and testing experience with distributed and tactical systems, including leading test execution and integration across functional teams.
• Experience supporting U.S. Navy combat-systems integration, testing, or sustainment.
• Strong understanding of real-time distributed systems, radar systems, and weapon-control logic.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and execute multiple concurrent assignments; ability to travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Active Secret Clearance.
• Experience with Navy surface-warfare systems and tactical applications such as Aegis Weapon System, SSDS, or Link-16.
• Experience in technical leadership or principal engineering roles.
• Knowledge of missile defense, air and missile warfare, or integrated fire-control systems.
• Experience developing and maintaining interface-control documents across fire-control and command subsystems.
• Experience developing, testing, and troubleshooting large-scale or distributed DoD software systems.
• Experience supporting rapid prototyping, experimentation, integration, and capability demonstrations.
