Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Java)

Location: Hybrid in Los Angeles/West Hollywood, California, United States; telecommuting may be permitted, but when not telecommuting the role must report to 8833 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069.

Salary: $189,051–$192,835 per year.

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable, high-performance software systems and database solutions for large volumes of application events and user interactions.
• Architect, build, and maintain a scalable data platform for data processing, storage, and access by engineers, analysts, and other internal stakeholders.
• Deploy, configure, monitor, and operate backend systems against technical requirements and service-level objectives.
• Coordinate system deployments, operational reviews, and cross-functional communication to meet engineering requirements, quality standards, and timelines.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for APIs, backend services, and data workflows.
• Research backend technologies and best practices and collaborate on shared backend services across the product portfolio.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 5 years of professional software engineering experience; alternatively, a Master’s degree or U.S. equivalent in one of these fields plus 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• At least 3 years of professional experience using backend programming languages, including Java.
• At least 3 years of professional experience designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale distributed data systems.
• At least 3 years of professional experience designing, developing, and modifying software systems using APIs.
• At least 2 years of professional experience deploying and managing backend services using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• At least 2 years of professional experience writing comprehensive unit and regression tests using testing frameworks including Mockito and Jest.
• At least 2 years of professional experience working with cross-functional teams, including security, IT, or finance, and contributing to security and compliance.
• At least 2 years of professional experience implementing high-performance, scalable backend systems supporting mobile applications.
• At least 2 years of professional experience performing data analysis and using data platforms to extract actionable insights from large datasets.
• At least 2 years of professional experience using Docker and container orchestration technologies including Kubernetes or AWS ECS.
• At least 2 years of professional experience with event-driven or message-oriented technologies including Apache Kafka or AWS SQS.
• At least 2 years of professional experience developing and supporting software related to compliance, authorization, or biometric systems.
• At least 2 years of professional experience using deployment and monitoring tools including Jenkins, Prometheus, and Grafana.
