Staff Platform Database Reliability Engineer (MySQL)

Location: Remote, with offices in New York and Toronto. Applicants are asked whether they are open to working in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

What you will do

• Provide strategic technical leadership across data, product, operations, infrastructure, and platform engineering domains.
• Deploy, operate, and scale databases across Kubernetes, decentralized cloud, and bare-metal environments.
• Architect relational data structures for performance, scalability, continuity, and low-latency operation.
• Establish database administration, monitoring, maintenance, testing, release, and automation practices.
• Lead troubleshooting, incident resolution, retrospectives, and root-cause analysis to improve Exchange reliability.
• Present technical roadmaps, mentor engineers, and communicate complex database topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a Database Reliability Engineer, Database Administrator, SRE focused on data systems, or in a similar role.
• Deep expertise with databases and distributed data technologies including MySQL, MariaDB, Galera, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Aerospike, Redis, StarRocks, and Vertica.
• Experience operating databases at scale in Kubernetes/containerized and bare-metal environments.
• Working knowledge of Python, Bash/Shell, Kotlin, Java, or Golang.
• Experience with Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD tools, database change management, and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills for globally distributed, low-latency infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of streaming and big data technologies such as Spark, Flink, Hadoop, Presto/Trino, or Redis.
• Experience with Helm, GitLab workflows, ArgoCD, Liquibase, Flyway, or Alembic.
