Materials Engineer

Location: Office-based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, with occasional travel to customer sites within the UK for less than 10% of working time.

What you will do

• Provide materials engineering and welding support for the UK fleet of large steam turbine generators and gas turbines.
• Prepare technical recommendations and contribute to maintenance strategies for power stations.
• Carry out practical materials investigations and laboratory-based analysis.
• Support technical challenges at the CAPW service and collaborate with colleagues and customers.
• Provide materials-based technical support for turbines, generators, and new business fields.

Requirements

• Degree in Materials Engineering or Metallurgy, potentially combined with another Engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Understanding of materials engineering principles and laboratory investigative techniques.
• Critical thinking, adaptability, practical investigative skills, and a problem-solving mindset.
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and laboratory-based optical microscopy.
• Ability to work from the Newcastle office and travel to UK customer sites occasionally.

Nice to have

• Experience in the power generation industry.
• Experience with large rotating equipment such as steam turbines, generators, or gas turbines.
