Category Manager, Direct Materials (Packaging)

Location: Hybrid, with on-site work required at an hirify.global office in Acton, Massachusetts, United States. Travel requirements: 20%.

Salary: $103,100–$154,625 annual base salary, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for packaging materials and related supplier categories.
• Lead sourcing events, supplier evaluations, competitive bids, benchmarking, negotiations, and contract development.
• Manage supplier performance through business reviews, scorecards, corrective action plans, and escalation processes.
• Partner with Packaging Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Planning, Manufacturing, Sustainability, and external suppliers.
• Ensure packaging availability, capacity, quality, regulatory compliance, service levels, and continuity of supply.
• Drive cost reduction, supplier consolidation, specification optimization, packaging efficiency, sustainability, and operational resilience projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, operations, engineering, packaging science, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in procurement category management, sourcing, negotiation, contracting, supplier management, packaging procurement, or project management.
• Experience with global strategic sourcing and supplier management for packaging materials.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, conversion processes, tooling, specifications, supplier capabilities, and quality requirements.
• Experience with benchmarking, RFx processes, cost analysis, should-cost modeling, and supplier performance tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, plus strong negotiation, communication, collaboration, financial analysis, and risk management skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in business administration, supply chain, engineering, or packaging science.
• Experience in medical devices, regulated manufacturing, life sciences, packaging, or global manufacturing.
