Embedded Systems Engineer – Test Automation & Integration (AI)

Location: Carlsbad, California; site-based role with work from a hirify.global office or work location at least 3 days per week (60%+).

Salary: $165,000–$260,500 annually; $205,000–$307,000 annually for specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Design and maintain scalable test and validation platforms for media server software running on Linux and virtualized environments.
• Build production-quality Python frameworks, libraries, services, and reusable automation for integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Develop CI/CD infrastructure, automated validation workflows, and engineering productivity tooling across multiple labs and product generations.
• Improve observability, metrics, reporting, dashboards, shift-left practices, and deployment confidence.
• Investigate complex failures across software, infrastructure, networking, and automation systems while collaborating with engineering teams across the US, APAC, and Europe.
• Design Agentic AI solutions for test orchestration, debugging, root cause analysis, and operational workflows; mentor engineers and contribute to technical decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, SDET, developer productivity engineering, automation engineering, or related roles.
• Strong Python development experience, including reusable frameworks, services, libraries, and automation platforms.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Rust, Bash, Linux, and OpenWRT.
• Experience with Google Test, cMocka, Gherkin, Pytest, Jenkins, Git/GitHub, Artifactory, and CodeQL.
• Experience designing and operating CI/CD systems and scaling automation for large, complex systems.
• Knowledge of networking protocols and distributed systems, including TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/S, DNS, DHCP, Multicast, and REST APIs; valid work permit or visa for the country of work is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with virtualized or cloud-based test environments and internal developer productivity platforms.
• Experience applying AI, ML, or Agentic AI to software development, testing, or operational workflows.
• Background in telecommunications, networking, satellite communications, aviation, in-flight connectivity, or distributed systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers, providing technical leadership, or holding a relevant bachelor's degree.
