Associate General Counsel - AI & Product Development

What you will do

• Advise on the creation, deployment, and commercialization of AI and data-driven products across the product lifecycle.
• Partner with Product, Technology, Engineering, Data Science, Compliance, Sales, Procurement, and Legal teams on responsible AI and data governance frameworks.
• Interpret global AI, privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance regulations and advise on product features, documentation, launches, and client deliverables.
• Prepare model cards, transparency notices, risk assessments, policies, training materials, playbooks, and governance documentation.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts covering AI, data use, data licensing, privacy, data processing, and product guardrails.
• Conduct internal audits and risk assessments while acting as a strategic legal advisor to technical, commercial, and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor degree or international equivalent, admission to the Bar, and current good standing permitting the practice of law.
• 5–10 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 5 years of product counseling involving data use, automation, or machine learning.
• At least 2 years advising on legal issues related to AI, machine learning, or algorithmic decision-making systems.
• Experience with complex commercial contracting, redlining, and negotiation in technology, AI, privacy, or cybersecurity contexts.
• Strong knowledge of AI governance, data protection, privacy laws, cybersecurity frameworks, and global regulations including GDPR, the EU AI Act, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA, LGPD, and PIPL.
• Ability to explain complex technical and data-related issues clearly, identify risks, and collaborate effectively in a global, matrixed organization.

Nice to have

• Background in technology, computer engineering, computer science, or data science.
• Experience in consumer packaged goods or data analytics.
• Experience with patent strategy or IP licensing in AI or software/SaaS.
• Exposure to national security law or cross-border data compliance.
• AIGP and/or CIPP certification.
