Product, Privacy & Compliance Counsel

Location: New York, NY, United States

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 USD annual base salary, plus bonus potential and equity.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary legal advisor to Product and Engineering across new features, products, and business initiatives.
• Lead data governance, including data mapping, data processing agreements, and cross-functional data-handling policies.
• Advise on U.S. and international privacy requirements, including CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and emerging regulations.
• Own and evolve AI policy, covering training data, transparency, automated decision-making, and responsible deployment.
• Support product marketing, disclosures, terms of use, privacy policies, integrations, data sharing, and technology partnerships.
• Develop scalable compliance frameworks, policies, training programs, and regulatory risk responses with cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school and membership in good standing with at least one state bar.
• 5+ years of experience advising on product development, privacy, or technology compliance, preferably in-house at a technology company.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. and international privacy and data protection laws, including CCPA/CPRA and GDPR.
• Experience advising on AI, machine learning, or automated decision-making from a legal and compliance perspective.
• Ability to assess legal risk throughout the product lifecycle and provide practical, business-friendly guidance.
• Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills.

Nice to have

• Based in New York.
• Experience with creator economy, influencer marketing, digital platforms, adtech, martech, fintech, or e-commerce.
• Experience building data governance programs, privacy frameworks, or AI policies from scratch.
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or a similar privacy certification.
• Experience handling regulatory inquiries, data incidents, or privacy-related crises.
